Traditional martial arts values, real world effectiveness. In the studio we train in a very controlled, professional environment. We have the opportunity to train our techniques safely and with someone who has the same objectives and concerns that we do. Even in the intense exchanges of contact sparring we are abiding by the rules, the etiquette and the ethics of The Philip Nearing School of Wing Chun. After all, the first thing any student of the martial arts must learn is control and restraint. However, a street self defense situation is the exact opposite of the atmosphere we develop in the martial arts gym.
In our Wing Chun in Self Defense class we work with street oriented situations and scenarios in order to make our students more alert, more street smart and more capable of adapting what they learn in the studio to real life problems. We start with 10 basic situations and work through scenarios involving being grabbed, held and standing up from being taken to the ground. We teach correct falling techniques to avoid injury and apply those falls in common self defense situations. We also work through scenarios involving multiple attackers. As the student progresses through the material they advance to more challenging situations involving protective equipment and greater intensity. Wing Chun in Self Defense is a fun, high energy class requiring quick thinking and improvisation on everyone’s part. Come give it a try.
